One license number covers the rooftop unit and the walk-in cooler. Heating, air and refrigeration are separate California classifications, and most contractors carry one of them. Tom’s holds both on a single current license — so one person can diagnose the whole building.
Furnaces, air conditioning and ventilation, residential and commercial. The comfort side of the building.
Walk-ins, reach-ins and commercial refrigeration systems. The side that protects your inventory.
Taken from their own service description and from the jobs customers wrote up by name.
Walk-ins, coolers and refrigeration systems for restaurants, markets and shops. Their own words for the job: “keeping you, your merchandise and your clients comfortable year-round.” This is the C-38 half of the license, and it is the reason a food business only needs one number in the phone.
New residential and commercial systems, named first in their own description: “top-notch installation and service repairs.”
Dan P.’s condenser had frozen over just as a heat wave arrived. He called Tom on a neighbour’s referral and got an answer quickly.
Denise A. needed an AC unit assessed for a real estate sale. She describes a fast diagnosis and a complete written report on the system.
Their own description puts “optimal performance, energy efficiency” ahead of comfort — and Aly S. writes that Tom “does not stop short with the immediate problem.”
The California Contractors State License Board lists license #1109609 as current and active, held by Tom’s Refrigeration HVAC Inc. of Oakland, with both C-20 and C-38 on the same record. There is a $25,000 contractor’s bond on file and a workers’ compensation policy in force. The same two classifications were first issued under Tom’s own name in January 2017. That date comes off the state’s own record, not off a marketing page.
“Tom’s Refrigeration HVAC Inc. is a family-owned and operated small business which takes pride in delivering top-notch installation and service repairs for residential and commercial HVAC, and commercial refrigeration systems.”
Thirty-four people have reviewed the business and thirty-three of them gave five stars. What stands out reading them is that almost nobody writes about “the company” — they write about Tom, by name, describing someone who explains the problem and then keeps going past it.

“Tom is hands down the most thorough, trustworthy and genuine person and business we’ve come to rely on! He knows his stuff and does not stop short with the immediate problem, but is proactive and…”
“Top line: Tom was exceptional in every way. He’s detail oriented, neat in his workspaces, courteous, a clear communicator, and stayed on task, all with a kind and engaging demeanor.”
